Sleep Apnea Treatment

Are you waking up tired every morning when you should feel refreshed and rejuvenated? Is your bed partner complaining about you holding your breath when you sleep or grumbling about your snoring? If this sounds like you, perhaps it may be necessary to be examined for sleep apnea.

When you fall asleep, your muscles relax. For some people, the muscles in the back of the throat relax to the level where the soft tissue collapses, closing off the airway or partially blocking it. When the airway is closed, another breath is not taken until the brain gets the signal that no air is coming in. This waking is instantaneous and can occur anywhere from one or two times to hundreds of times during the night. This is the reason you may wake up tired.

Proper diagnosis of the problem leads to creating an effective treatment plan. A sleep study may be required to discover the severity of your problem. There are remedies for sleep apnea. You may need a special machine that drives air into your airway so it does not collapse while you sleep. Less extensive treatment may be available for you as well.

Relief from Snoring and Teeth Grinding

Snoring and teeth grinding can also cause a restless night for you and your partner. The sound of a person grinding their teeth at night can be quite annoying, as can the sound of snoring. Both these conditions can prevent your partner from getting a decent night’s sleep. The solution may be as simple as being fitted for a nightguard.

The nightguard fits over your teeth and positions your jaw so the muscles in the back of your throat cannot cause a blockage once they relax. It also prevents you from grinding your teeth by maintaining a cushion between your upper and lower teeth.
