Frisco Dentures

You could go through life missing teeth and missing out on having a beautiful smile, or you can give us a call at Parklane Family Dentistry, and let us replace those teeth with restorative dentistry. A beautifully restored smile is only a small reason to have your missing teeth replaced.

Your oral health is compromised when do not have your full set of teeth. The more teeth you are missing, the larger the impact. It isn’t just your oral health that is affected but overall health as well. In fact, research reveals that people who are missing all their teeth have a higher incidence of chronic kidney problems.

If you are missing all or some of your teeth, getting dentures is an economical solution for having those teeth restored. Dentures are made to fit comfortably over your gums. They give you back a beautiful smile while at the same time restoring your ability to chew effectively. If you have been missing out on your favorite foods or healthy foods due to lack of chewing surface, it is time to make a call, and let us get your oral health back on track.

Partial Dentures

When only a few teeth are missing, you have a few options to get them restored. Dental bridges and implants are popular choices. However, not everyone is a good candidate for those procedures. A partial denture is a nice alternative. Like a full denture that replaces all the teeth, a partial denture is removable.

In the case where all your back teeth are missing but you still have your front teeth, a bridge may not work. This is because you can only anchor the bridge on one side of the gap. There are no teeth further back to anchor the other side of the bridge. This is a situation where a partial denture would be a good solution.

We will fit you with a perfect set of dentures to restore your smile and chewing ability. Contact Parklane Family Dentistry today, and make an appointment for a consultation with Frisco dentist Dr. Vashisht. She will help you decide on the best alternative for restoring your missing teeth.

What Is the Denture Placement Process?

If you’re interested in getting dentures, the process begins with a consultation with Dr. Vashisht, who will perform an oral exam to assess the severity of your tooth loss. X-rays will also be taken to look for any oral health problems in the teeth that you do have.

If you are receiving full dentures, we will need to extract any remaining teeth in the arch that is being replaced. The next step is to take impressions of your mouth and send them to a dental lab that will fabricate custom-made dentures that fit the exact parameters of your mouth.

We will also measure how your bite fits together, known as a “jaw record” and this is sent along with your impressions to the dental lab. It takes several weeks to fabricate your dentures but your gums won’t be fully healed for 8-12 weeks.

You will receive temporary immediate dentures to restore your smile and tooth functionality until your official dentures are ready. Once your denture framework has been set in wax we will call you in for a trial fitting to see how they fit, feel, and look in your mouth.

This is an opportunity for you to alert your dentist about adjustments that must be made. A few adjustment periods are normal before your dentures are finalized. There will then be a final fitting to ensure your dentures are just right.

What Are the Benefits of Dentures?

While dentures have gotten a bit of a bad rap due to the limited technology of the past, modern dentures are much more comfortable and enable you to live a more flexible and convenient lifestyle.

Dentures fill in gaps in your smile with partials or can replace all of the teeth in your mouth with full dentures. By replacing teeth with dentures, you improve the appearance of your smile, make it easier to eat your favorite foods, and can alleviate speech problems.

As a tooth replacement, dentures are much more affordable, immediate, and non-invasive compared to dental implants. By restoring your smile and tooth functionality, you will feel more confident and will face fewer lifestyle restrictions.

Dentures also help restore support to the muscles around your mouth to prevent premature aging. Partial dentures prevent your other teeth from shifting and blocking the space where your old tooth used to be.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dentures?

Anyone who is missing a few or most of their teeth and who doesn’t have active oral health problems is a great candidate for dentures. The best part about replacing teeth with dentures is that they’re super accessible due to their affordability and suitability for most people.

While restorative treatments such as dental implants can cost thousands of dollars per tooth, you can replace an entire arch of teeth for less than the cost of a single implant. Another limitation of implants is that most people lack sufficient bone support. If you have extensive tooth loss, you likely suffer from extensive bone loss which means you can’t support dental implants.

Patients who aren’t considered good candidates for implants make great candidates for dentures because they don’t require much bone support, even for patients who have a history of gum disease. How to Properly Care for Dentures

In the first 30 days of receiving your dentures, you will experience some temporary discomfort, excessive salivation, difficulty chewing, soreness, and difficulty speaking clearly. However, as you get used to your dentures, these problems will subside.

Allow at least a month to get used to your dentures. In terms of caring for your dentures over the long term, you will need to remove them each night before you go to sleep and store them in a denture solution to soak overnight.

You should also clean them twice a day in the morning and night. Use a soft bristle toothbrush and denture cleaner to scrub all of the surfaces of the denture and don’t forget to clean your gums and tongue as well.

Even if you don’t have any natural teeth, you can still develop gum disease by failing to practice good oral hygiene. After eating, you should rinse out your dentures and you should rinse them before putting them back in. It’s also important that you attend regular dental checkups every 6 months to check on the condition of your dentures and your oral health.
